The “Enemy Alien Files” Exhibit & Tour
WHAT IS THE EAF EXHIBIT?
The EAF Exhibit presents in dramatic format a photo-narrative history of the World War II Alien Enemy Internment Program, highlighting the German, Italian and Japanese immigrant wartime exclusion and internment experience in the US and from Latin America. This unique comparative and multicultural presentation makes accessible to the public an important aspect of WWII that has direct relevance to today’s domestic and world events. Since the EAF Exhibit’s premier ten days after the tragedies of September 11, 2001, the EAF Consortium has organized the tour of this groundbreaking exhibit and related programming to diverse venues across the nation, from Hawaii to Washington, D.C.
The EAF Exhibit is a collaboration among the American Italian Historical Association—Western Regional Chapter, German American Internee Coalition, Japanese Peruvian Oral History Project, and the National Japanese American Historical Society.
Funding to produce and tour this exhibit was made possible in part by grants from the California Arts Council, the California Council for the Humanities and the California Civil Liberties Public Education Program.
We are grateful to U.S. Congressional Representative Mike Honda of California for his valuable support of this exhibit.
